About Pilot Car Service Canada
We provide Pilot Car Services throughout Western Canada and have experience with numerous different load or truck configurations.
A pilot car service is a specialized transportation service that helps guide oversize loads safely through transportation routes. We have experience with large construction equipment, upgrader modules, windmill parts and sections including blades of over 300 feet, and other large items that require an escort for safe transport, including:
- Large construction equipment, such as bulldozers, excavators, and cranes
- Oversize shipping containers
- Oilfield processing equipment
- Industrial machinery and equipment
- Power transformers and other large electrical equipment
- Prefabricated buildings or modular homes
- Large sculptures or other works of art
- Bridge beams and other structural components
It's important to note that pilot car services are not designed to transport loads on their own. Rather, they are there to guide and escort large loads during transport, ensuring that they are moved safely and efficiently.
Pilot Car Services that we provide include and are not limited to:
- Lead car: A lead car is the vehicle that leads the oversize load and sets the pace for the transport. The lead car is typically equipped with flashing lights and reflective materials to make it more visible to other drivers.
- Chase car: A chase car is a vehicle that follows the oversize load and provides additional guidance and protection. The chase car may be equipped with similar materials as the lead car to make it more visible.
- Rear escort vehicle: A rear escort vehicle is a vehicle that follows behind the oversize load and provides additional guidance and protection. The rear escort vehicle may be equipped with similar materials as the lead car to make it more visible.
- Steerman: A steerman is a professional who drives the rear "steerable" trailer around corners during the transportation of longer loads. The primary role of a pilot car steerman is to steer and protect the oversize load from cutting corners and ensures that the load stays on the road.
- Route planning: Route planning refers to the process of selecting the most efficient and safe route for the transportation of an oversize load. This involves taking into account factors such as road conditions, traffic patterns, and any potential hazards or restrictions on the route.
